This article reports the results of research which investigated a strategy for teaching moderately mentally retarded individuals to perform skills required for driving an automobile. It was found that: (a) All skills learned in the simulator were transferred, with assistance, to the training vehicle; (b) Moderately mentally retarded individuals were trained to competently perform some of the skills found in driver education curricula; and (c) Resultant data suggest the feasibility of continuing the development of procedures for training moderately mentally retarded individuals to drive. Recommendations are made for future research.
