Sim racing has recently become a highly notable activity, both as a leisure pursuit and as a professional esports career. The aim of the study is to identify the factors that determine the realism experience in sim racing. Qualitative research methods were employed to collect and analyze the study data. A phenomenological approach was chosen for the research design, allowing for an in‐depth examination of the concept of realism in sim racing, which is otherwise only superficially recognized. As a result, it was revealed that realism in sim racing can be examined under five different themes: physics engine, environmental conditions, equipment, effects, and content variety. Considering this result, the parameters that influence the perception of realism in sim racing are better understood. Thus, the study offers insights that could serve as valuable guidelines for game developers to update and improve their games.
