A novel strategy involving the self-transformation of superficial LiV ₃ O ₈ in a reducing atmosphere (H ₂ /Ar) was reported to fabricate core–shell structured Li x V ₂ O ₅ /LiV ₃ O ₈ nanoflakes. The cycling stability and rate performance were significantly improved.
