Empirical manifestations of the O(6) symmetry, in Pt and the A=130 region, both display the same specific relationship between the O(6) and O(5) scales of degeneracy breaking. This particular relationship also appears in the Consistent Q Formalism of the IBA. A microscopic interpretation is provided in terms of a fermion shell model Hamiltonian with quadrupole interactions which carries SO(8) symmetry.
