We reported a synergy between Ru and Cu, obtaining a highly active catalyst for acetylene hydrochlorination, which improved the TOF of Cu to ca. 1.81 min ⁻¹ and showed that the Cu–Ru catalyst is an alternative to the toxic conventional HgCl ₂ catalyst.
