Black and minority ethnic group users of mental health services receive, on average, significantly poorer services than their white counterparts in Britain.The evidence indicates that there is a type of progressive filtering effect so that black patients are increasingly over represented in higher levels of secure psychiatric care.This paper summarizes the evidence for this form of social inequality.
