A biopsychosocial approach to education about human sexuality can be one of the most effective means of preventing the tragic consequences of HIV transmission to women and children. Transmission to women perpetuates the HIV epidemic, the result being that the AIDS population of women surpasses that of men in Africa [1], equals that of men in developing countries [2], and is the fastest growing group in developed countries [3]. It also means transmission to newborns and to generations of orphans left by mothers and fathers who have died of AIDS.
