You do not have to be a weather forecaster to know which way the wind is blowing. In our profession, the current wind of technology, the main topic of this book, seems to be blowing from all directions and in all directions at once. No one, from the youngest of young learners to the most senior executive in ELT publishing, can afford to be indifferent to the technological winds of change. I suggest that before reading Walker and White’s book, you place yourself in relation to those adjectives (for example on a scale from ‘confused’ to ‘confident’) which best match your own feelings about technological change in our profession. I would describe myself as ‘curious’, ‘interested’, and ‘relieved’. The last, because I suspect that like many retired colleagues, I am happy that for most of my ELT career, I did not have to come to terms with the exigencies of technology.
