We report the growth of ZnO nanorods with pentagonal cross‐section in electrodeposition on p‐type Si substrates. Cathodic potentials smaller than those used for growth of hexagonal nanorods are used. The pentagonal wires have a typical length of 1–2 µm and grow out of an inhomogeneous nano‐crystalline thin film. We tentatively explain the occurrence of the pentagonal morphology in terms of kinetic limitations for electron transport in the p‐Si substrate and changed chemical conditions at the growth surface.
