Numerical procedure demonstrates dynamic crack behavior in composite shells, indicating improved modeling accuracy.
This paper presents a numerical procedure to deal with dynamic crack propagation in Variable Angle Tow (VAT) composite shells under non-Fourier thermal shock based on the Green-Naghdi (GN) theory of thermoelasticity within eXtended Finite Element Method (XFEM). A novel interaction integral is proposed to extract Stress Intensity Factors (SIFs) for a dynamically moving crack in VAT composite shells, which includes some extra terms to preserve its domain-independency. Besides, the asymptotic solution of temperature field for a fast-running crack in anisotropic shells is derived analytically to extract adequate tip enrichment functions to use in XFEM. In addition, the Third-order Shear Deformation Theory (TSDT) is employed for accurate modeling of cracked shell structures under transient thermal loading. Several numerical examples are provided to assess the reliability of the proposed method for thermomechanical loading.
