The ligand 2,6-bis(benzimidazol-2-yl)-4-hydroxypyridine (H3OBP) and its complexes, [Co(HOBP)(H2OBP)]·2H2O·2EtOH (1) and [Ni(H2OBP)2] [Ni(H3OBP)(H2OBP)]NO3·3H2O (2), have been synthesized and characterized by single-crystal X-ray crystallography, IR, UV-Vis, and fluorescence spectroscopies. Each metal center in two complexes is six-coordinated with N6 donor set in slightly distorted octahedral environment, which are further linked by extensive hydrogen bonds and π–π stacking to form multidimensional supramolecular network. Moreover, the interactions of complexes 1 and 2 with calf thymus DNA (CT-DNA) have been investigated by fluorescence spectroscopy, showing the apparent binding constant (K app) values of 4.31 × 105 M−1 and 3.14 × 105 M−1 for 1 and 2, respectively.
