SYNOPSIS Twelve tension headache patients and 12 nonheadache controls participated in an electromyographic (EMG) evaluation in which measurements were obtained from horizontal frontalis and bilateral trapezius placements. The evaluation was conducted while the participants were in reclining, sitting and standing positions. The results demonstrated higher frontalis EMG levels for the headache participants. However, contrary to prediction, the headache participants showed no greater EMG elevations in the trapezius musculature while sitting or standing as compared to the nonheadache controls.
