Preparing Teachers of Students with Severe Disabilities

This article examines the issues related to preparing teachers to instruct students with severe disabilities. The competencies needed by teachers are categorized by topical areas and described. The process of teacher training is discussed with an emphasis on the importance of values-based training, relevant field experience, and modeling by teacher educators.
