The concept of an Ideal Soil (IS) has been presented in a previous paper where soil attributes have been grouped in four functions or services that they must render to crops. However, attributes of an IS have critical values, which must be above certain Critical Thresholds (CT). Here we are proposing some edaphic variables which are taken as parameters of the physical state, chemical composition and biological activity of such soils (especially in Mollisols in Argentinian North Pampean Region). Based on our own experience, we also show the appropriate measurement techniques and critical thresholds of the soils.
