Key result
Controlling severe hypertension with intravenous labetalol and oral valsartan/amlodipine led to rapid cessation of hemoptysis and resolution of diffuse alveolar hemorrhage.
Why the study?
Severe hypertension is a rare cause of diffuse alveolar hemorrhage.
Case Report (n=1)
No
Severe hypertension is a rare cause of diffuse alveolar hemorrhage that can be effectively managed with prompt blood pressure control.
Severe hypertension warrants inclusion in diffuse alveolar hemorrhage differentials; single case leaves open generalizability and causality.
Severe hypertension is a rare cause of diffuse alveolar hemorrhage. We reported a case of a 43-year-old woman who presented with shortness of breath, hemoptysis, and severe hypertension. The patient was diagnosed with diffuse alveolar hemorrhage due to severe hypertension which improved after controlling her blood pressure.

Basrak et al. (2023) conducted a case report in Diffuse Alveolar Hemorrhage and Severe Hypertension (n=1). Blood pressure control (Labetalol, Valsartan/Amlodipine) was evaluated on Clinical improvement (cessation of hemoptysis and improved oxygenation). Controlling severe hypertension with intravenous labetalol and oral valsartan/amlodipine led to rapid cessation of hemoptysis and resolution of diffuse alveolar hemorrhage.
