A new expression has been developed for calculating the‐effective permittivity of rectangular microstrip antenna elements with various thicknesses of substrates. This technique is original, simple, and easily adaptable to a wide variety of dielectric materials, scalable over wide frequency ranges, and included in a CAD system. The results obtained from this technique confirm those calculated from formulas reported elsewhere.
