Gynogenetic diploid channel catfish (lctalurus punctatus) were produced through meriotic inhibition of channel catfish eggs fertilized with irradiated sperm of blue catfish (I. furcatus). Six enzyme loci polymorphic in channel catfish were analysed for allozyme phenotypes in the gynogenetic diploid offspring; the proportion of heterozygous progeny was used to estimate gene-centromere distances. Phenotypes for an additional 13 enzyme locus products polymorphic between channel and blue catfish confirmed the gynogenetic production of analysied progeny, as no blue catfish paternal allele products were observed in any of the offspring studied. Gene-centromere recombination frequency estimates ranged from 0.36 to 1.00 (0.62 mean), comparable to ranges of estimates observed in other fishes and suggesting almost complete chiasma interference in at least some genomic regions. Joint segregation analyses of five locus pairs detected no significant evidence of genetic linkage.
