The potential for limestone in Indonesia is almost all over Indonesia. According to data from Mediadipoera et al, (1990), Indonesia's limestone reserves reach 28.7 billion tons. South Sumatra is currently one of the largest limestone producers on the island of Sumatra. Limestone mining in the province of South Sumatra, is located in the city of Baturaja, precisely in the Ogan Komering Ulu area. One of the efforts to utilize limestone is as a raw material for making heterogeneous catalysts because it contains Calcium Oxide (CaO). Calcium Oxide (CaO) is one type of heterogeneous catalyst and has a high basicity. The high basicity of CaO causes this oxide to be widely used as a catalyst in the transesterification process of oil into biodiesel. The purpose of this research is to make a CaO catalyst that has high performance where its performance will be tested in biodiesel production. This research was conducted by reacting used cooking oil with methanol in a ratio of 1: 16 and 1 gram of CaO catalyst with a stirring speed of 800 rpm for 1 hour at a temperature of 60oC. The catalyst and biodiesel produced will be analyzed using XRD, Yield, Density, and Viscosity tools.
