The 11th edition ofBest and Taylor's Physiological Basis of Medical Practicehas been edited by Dr John B. West, a well-known respiratory physiologist, and by eight section editors, who are also well known in their areas of expertise. Since its first edition, in 1937, this text in physiology has been widely used by medical and graduate students and by practicing physicians in the United States, Canada, and—having been translated into nine foreign languages—all over the world. The new edition is divided into ten sections: general physiological processes, the cardiovascular system, blood and lymph, body fluids, renal function, respiration, the gastrointestinal system, metabolism, the endocrine system, and neurophysiology; the whole volume contains 72 chapters. Each chapter starts with an introduction and is subdivided into specific topics. At the end of each section is a pertinent bibliography.
