Crisis resource management (CRM) is the set of principles and nontechnical skills in cognitive and interpersonal behaviors that is used during effective teamwork in high-stakes situations. CRM originated in Crew (or “Cockpit”) resource management developed by the aviation industry in the 1970s to improve performance and reduce human errors. Investigations in aviation accidents revealed that most errors were related to failure in teamwork and communication rather than technical skills or knowledge deficits [1].
