A method for calculating the absorbed dose at points near a plane interface between bone and soft tissue and in soft tissue-filled cavities, from an α-emitting source homogeneously distributed in bone, is presented. Geometrical factors for calculating the absorbed dose from radium α particles are given. The mean geometrical factors for various cylindrical cavities were determined and compared with those of Kononenko and Spiers. The absorbed doses to soft tissue-filled cavities calculated by this method are higher than the values of these authors.
