In patients with chronic renal failure on intermittent haemodialysis, fibrin‐like material was deposited in several parts of the dialyser in spite of heparinization to give a whole blood clotting time of more than 60 min. Immunochemically the deposited material contained fibrinogen‐fibrin related antigens (FR‐antigens). Polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis, in the presence of sodium dodecyl sulphate (SDS) demonstrated γ‐γ‐dimers and a‐polymers, indicating that the deposited material consisted of fibrin, crosslinked by factor XIII.
