The authors present a microscopic derivation of the electron-electron scattering amplitude in normal metals including direct Coulomb and phonon-exchange interactions, thereby extending the results of a previous paper (1983). The total scattering amplitude is a sum of a Coulomb term identical to what they would have in the absence of electron-phonon interactions and a phonon term which can be determined exactly to within a correction of order ( nu D / epsilon F are the Debye and Fermi energies, respectively).
