Social work doctoral programs that place greater emphasis on research training are located in schools where faculty are relatively more involved in funded research and where students are relatively more involved in research activities. Reconsideration of fundamental assumptions regarding social work education may be warranted if doctoral programs are to place greater emphasis on training research scholars.
