We consider the inclusive reaction pp{→}{Λ}X in the fragmentation region and present a dynamical mechanism which leads to a fair description of all the basic features of the observed {Λ} spectrum. We also show in a simple manner why it generates a nonzero {Λ} polarization whose magnitude and $sign--- are consistent with existing data.
