This paper describes the features of five previously published instruments which can be used to assess the quality of supervision, from the perception of the supervisee or student. It is argued that an increased attention be given in social work field practica to the quality of supervision provided to MSW and to BSW students, and that the use of one or more of these supervision rating instruments is a step in such efforts. Further research is needed to demonstrate that supervision positively affects the processes of social work intervention, and enhances the likelihood of positive outcomes in the lives of clients.
