Why the study?
It was unknown whether flow rate in mL/s could serve as an alternative to conventional indexed stroke volume for stratifying patients with aortic valve area ≤1 cm2 and low gradients.
Flow rate in mL/s strongly correlates with indexed stroke volume, but its systematic use might downgrade the severity of valvular lesions in a significant proportion of patients with low gradient aortic stenosis.
