The ionization probe is discussed in connection with the measurement of the velocity of reactive shocks in explosive materials. Static tests show that the thin wall in the present configuration will collapse at approximately 12,000 psi. The estimated response time of the probe is of the order 0.1 mu sec. The attenuation of shock velocity in propellants and in inert materials such as Lucite was measured. (B.O.G.)
