In the course of studies on antibiotic, it was found that a new antibiotic P-3355 was produced in the culture broth of a new species of Streptomyces, Streptomyces amylovorus. The present communication deals with taxonomy of S. amylovorus, isolation, biological and physicochemical properties and chemical structure of the antibiotic P-3355. 1. Taxonomy Streptomyces sp. No. P-3355 was isolated from a soil sample collected in Kyoto City. The taxonomic characteristics of the strain were summarized as follows: Aerial mycelium is simply branched. Sporophore is flexuous to spiral and forms spores in chain in number of 50 or more and the spore surface is smooth. Matured aerial mass color belongs to "Red series (4ca-5ca) ". Reverse color is most distinctive and soluble pigments are not observed, except for a melanoid pigment. The carbon utilization is positive for D-glucose, L-arabinose, D-xylose, D-fructose, sucrose and raffinose, but negative for inisitol, rhamnose and D-mannitol. Among
