Teacher turnover is a significant concern facing school administrators globally. This paper explores the primary factors contributing to teacher turnover in Kuwait’s public schools, emphasizing both cultural and systemic influences. Using a qualitative research design, this study draws upon semi-structured interviews with 48 ex-teachers to uncover why they left their profession. The researchers employed a thematic analysis approach, guided by Social Cognitive Career Theory to analyze interview data and interpret findings. The analysis highlights three main themes appearing to drive teacher turnover in Kuwait: professional identity and value perception, work–life balance and role conflict, and interpersonal relations and support systems. This study illustrates the importance of building a supportive school environment to reduce turnover and retain qualified teachers. Future research recommendations and the need for professional development are discussed.
