Postal questionnaires were distributed in March 1993 to 120 consultant cardiac surgeons actively performing coronary artery bypass surgery in the United Kingdom.
Responses were collected from 104 surgeons (87% response rate) evaluating operative volume, conduit selection, myocardial protection strategies, and postoperative medical therapies.

Cardioplegic arrest was employed by 72% of surgeons for myocardial protection compared to 28% utilizing intermittent aortic cross-clamping and fibrillation, while alternative arterial conduits were used in only 3% of cases.
