The effect of curvature on dispersion characteristics of multimode parabolic index fibres has been studied theoretically. It is found that the effect of curvature on propagation constant, delay time and broadening (corresponding to an incident Gaussian temporal pulse) of any mode is negligible for a practical SELFOC fibre. However, the decrease in the total number of guided modes is significant, particularly for small values of radius of curvature.
