Explores the impact of drawing skills on effective teaching and learning in Nigeria, suggesting curriculum adjustments for teacher training.
There is no doubt that certain classroom activities require some important visual aids and good instructional materials in order to facilitate effective teaching and learning process. Hence, drawing which is an aspect of fine and applied arts education play key role in the production of many instructional materials and visual aids, most especially in the teachings, learning and teacher education in Nigeria. It is the opinion of this paper that not all trained teachers and students teachers know how to make some simple drawings to facilitate their teaching, even though it requires them in the teaching process while many are biased with a thought that drawing cannot be taught or learnt by a non-artists. If this is perceived as a pitfall in the teaching profession in Nigeria, faculties of education, colleges of education and all teachers training institutions should make adjustment in their curriculum in order to prepare all trained teachers to be equipped for this great and obvious task in the teaching profession. Making drawing in fine and applied arts department a compulsory core course for all trained teachers would be a great advantage in producing the instructional materials and visual aids for effective teaching and learning process
