Identifies barriers and enablers influencing First Nations workforce participation, suggesting pathways for improvement.
This study examines the barriers and facilitators affecting the participation and retention of First Nations peoples in the early childhood workforce within remote Australian communities. It aims to identify strategies that enhance workforce capacity and promote culturally responsive practices, ultimately improving children’s learning outcomes. By incorporating both First Nations and non-First Nations perspectives, this research seeks to inform sustainable and culturally appropriate workforce solutions for the future. Reports highlight the underrepresentation of First Nations peoples in early childhood roles; however, limited data exist on the factors contributing to these challenges or the enablers that could improve workforce participation in this field. This study aims to provide practical insights into the emerging knowledge of workforce development in remote communities to enhance participation and support better learning outcomes for children.
