With AI seemingly existent in every landscape of contemporary life, students are using AI tools more frequently, while simultaneously scaling back on traditional practices of art-making. What does this mean as an educator, specifically teaching in the realm of art education? A recent experience in my classroom led me to look into this topic a bit further, through exploring several questions, including: How has technology expanded into AI usage in education, and how is AI currently being used within the field of art education? Who is in control when it comes to “creating” AI? Do humans have complete autonomy or lose power when using AI tools? And as educators, should we openly embrace AI or remain cautious?
