Given the rapid development of high-energy-consuming digital technologies coupled with intensifying cross-cultural conflicts, the development and orchestration of an ecosystem-oriented business model (EBM) that pursues a dynamic balance among nature, human well-being and digital technologies has become more important than ever. However, limited evidence on this subject is currently available in the Asia Pacific. Our symposium aims to fill this gap. Our collection features 11 articles that adopt various perspectives, interdisciplinary theoretical underpinnings and diversified methodologies to provide novel insights into understanding the antecedents, formulation and value logic of EBMs in the Asia Pacific. Based on the key findings, we outline four pathways for future research: (1) addressing the challenges of combining artificial and human intelligence for decision-making in EBMs; (2) knowledge creation and management issues in EBMs; (3) incorporating the environment, social and governance agenda into the development of EBMs and (4) identifying and resolving cross-cultural conflicts in EBMs.
