Projects are being carried out in Japan to improve road landscapes by removing utility poles and burying electric transmission lines, etc. This paper proposes a fractal dimension method to quantitatively assess the improvement of road landscapes achieved by removing utility poles. To this end, a series of road landscapes was captured as sequential landscapes, and a method for quantitatively assessing the effects of removing utility poles on improving the sequential road landscapes was established. The method was tested on a national road in Sapporo city and road landscapes that were greatly improved by removing utility poles were identified.
