We believe that the renal lymphatics act as a "safety valve" for the kidneys under conditions of diuresis and/or ureteral obstruction. There is experimental support for this idea.3-6This collateral pathway for the escape of fluid from the kidney operates under conditions of ureteral obstruction to prevent the kidney from self-destruction. This function of the renal lymphatics may be an important factor in total renal function in a variety of diseases such as nephrosis, pyelonephritis, orthostatic albuminuria, chyluria, and possibly congestive heart failure.In...Bibliography1.
