Hyperbaric oxygen (HBO) therapy has an adjunctive role in the management of crush injury and other acute traumatic ischaemia syndromes. The unieing finding in the acute peripheral ischaema (API) syndromes is tissue hypoxia associated with trauma. Ischaemia, oedema and a gradient of injury are primary pathological features of the API syndromes. The physiological effects of HBOT make it a logical adjunct for the management of these API syndromes.
