Arapid acquisition lidar system has been constructed with the purpose of diagnosing the spray geometry and deposition of pesticides from aerial application. The system is designed to obtain cross-sectional profiles of the aerosol backscatter from the spray in a plane perpendicular to the flight line of the aircraft. Cross-sectional profiles are obtained every six seconds and allow evaluation of the evolution of the spray cloud over flat terrain and over forest canopies. Examples of initial experimental studies with the system are shown.
