The purpose of the study was to investigate relationships between levels of awareness for recent news and claimed use of different sources of news information. A telephone interview survey was conducted with 535 people representative of the London ITV region. In the presence of statistical controls for several demographic variables, the results indicated that reported serious newspaper reading and network television news viewing were the two media variables most closely and positively associated with awareness of the previous week's news.
