Accounting for magnitude errors, the catalog should be complete at magnitude 5.0 and above for most of California after 1940 and at specified higher thresholds otherwise. Earthquake magnitudes play an important role in earthquake forecasting and prediction, but their use is complicated by the fact that there are many magnitude types, measured in different ways with different uncertainties. Even a single catalog may... You do not have access to this content, please speak to your institutional administrator if you feel you should have access.
