The problem of a particle trapped in a quartic double-well potential in the presence of a mono-chromatic external field is studied. Renormalization-group techniques are used to determine at what external field frequencies and amplitudes barrier penetration can occur for a particle initially trapped at a given energy in one of the potential wells.
