A new approach to the synthesis of imides of vicinal thiopyrandicarboxylic acids, based on the construction of the imide fragment via acylation of anilines with 4,6 diphenyl-3,4-dihydro-2H-thiopyran-2,3-dicarboxylic acid anhydride, has been developed. The proposed method successfully enhances known approaches associated with the formation of the thiopyran ring.
