Computerized tomography (CT) scanning alone is inadequate for diagnosis, and the authors offer an assessment of the current methods for preoperative identification of cystic supratentorial tumors, while reviewing the multiple etiologies suggested for the CT appearance. No single process explains all the aspects of peri- or intratumoral cyst formation in meningiomas.
