Examines muon moment discrepancies in particle physics, suggesting no anomaly remains.
Photonic Universe Hypothesis (PUH) — Premise Correction and Requirement. THE PREMISE FAILS FIRST. The muon's anomalous magnetic moment was for two decades the most celebrated discrepancy in particle physics, standing near six standard deviations. It no longer stands, and the reason is not what one might assume. THE MEASUREMENT DID NOT MOVE: the Fermilab collaboration's final Run 1–6 result agrees with earlier determinations at greatly improved precision, giving a world average with Brookhaven E821 of 116592071.5 ± 14.5 ×10⁻¹¹ (124 ppb). THE PREDICTION MOVED. The Theory Initiative's 2025 update adopted lattice-QCD evaluations of the leading-order hadronic vacuum polarisation in place of the 2020 data-driven dispersive evaluation, producing a large upward shift, and states in its own words that this implies no tension between the Standard Model and experiment at the current level of precision. COMPUTED: WP2020 (116591810 ± 43) gives a difference of +261.5 ± 45.4, or 5.76σ; WP2025 (116592033 ± 62) gives +38.5 ± 63.7, or 0.60σ. THE ANOMALY IS ELIMINATED, NOT REDUCED. Any programme intending to explain it is explaining something that is no longer there. THE OBVIOUS TEST IS A NON-TEST. A muon with structure at scale Λ shifts the moment by of order (m_μ/Λ)². Taking twice the combined uncertainty as the limit: |δa_μ| < 1.27×10⁻⁹, hence Λ > 2.96 TeV, hence structure smaller than 6.65×10⁻²⁰ m. THE PLANCK LENGTH IS SIXTEEN ORDERS SMALLER. A Planck-scale-structured muon passes trivially — and a constraint satisfied by sixteen orders conveys no information about the framework. It cannot distinguish this framework from any other with Planck-scale structure, nor from one with no structure at all. The compositeness route yields nothing. THEOREM 322.1. To 99.6 percent, the muon's anomalous moment is the fine-structure constant divided by 2π. The Schwinger one-loop term α/2π = 0.0011614097 against the measured 0.0011659207 — 99.61 percent, with everything else (higher QED, weak, hadronic) contributing 0.0000045110, or 0.39 percent. SO THE MUON'S MOMENT IS, TO FIRST APPROXIMATION, A MEASUREMENT OF α — made to 124 parts per billion. Every framework claiming to derive the fine-structure constant inherits this as a test, whether or not it says anything about muons. RESULT 322.2. T169 derives 1/α₀ = dim(E7) + rank(E8)/2 = 133 + 4 = 137 from the photon's neighbourhood in the algebra, with the measured 137.036 decomposed as bare value plus vacuum polarisation. TESTING THE BARE VALUE: α = 1/137 gives α/2π = 0.0011617149, departing from the measured moment by +3.05×10⁻⁷ — MORE THAN TWO THOUSAND TIMES (2,105×) THE EXPERIMENTAL UNCERTAINTY. The three hundredths are therefore not a decoration on a successful derivation; THEY CARRY ESSENTIALLY THE ENTIRE TEST. Deriving 137 is a striking result about the algebra; it is not by itself a derivation of α to any precision this measurement can use. RESULT 322.3. THE FRAMEWORK DOES NOT CLAIM TO HAVE DERIVED THEM, and this is recorded before the requirement is stated. T169's First Addendum sets out that Standard Model running to the Planck scale gives α⁻¹ ≈ 102, not 137, so the condensate must supply anti-screening, decomposed there as α⁻¹(0) = 137 + (−35) + 35.036 = 137.036 — and places this under a section headed "The Outstanding Calculation: E8 Anti-Screening." Its Proposition 3 states the anti-screening as what the condensate MUST contribute for consistency, OBTAINED BY SUBTRACTION FROM THE MEASURED VALUE, NOT COMPUTED FROM THE ALGEBRA. That is honest and correctly labelled. THIS NOTE MAKES IT QUANTITATIVE: since the moment is 99.6 percent α/2π and is measured to 124 ppb, the coupling must be correct to the same fractional accuracy — 1/α = 137.036000 ± 0.000017, hence δ_E8 = 35.036000 ± 0.000017. SEVEN SIGNIFICANT FIGURES ON A QUANTITY PRESENTLY WRITTEN WITH THREE. The bar is not met, it is not close to being met, and nothing here suggests otherwise. But stating it precisely is more useful than an anomaly would have been: an anomaly permits many explanations and adjudicates between none; a seven-figure target admits only a correct calculation, and it is available now rather than contingent on a discrepancy that has since dissolved. KILL-CONDITIONS: (i) if the data-driven HVP evaluation is vindicated and the lattice determinations found to be in error, the anomaly returns at ~5.8σ and Section 1 must be rewritten — the tension between methods is live in that literature and is not settled here; (ii) if the anti-screening is computed from the algebra and differs from 35.036 by more than 0.000017, the framework's coupling is inconsistent with the measured moment; (iii) if the moment's dependence on α is weaker than the Schwinger term implies, through higher-order cancellations, the precision requirement relaxes. NOT CLAIMED: that the framework fails the test, since the deciding calculation has not been done and the archive says so; that it passes, for the same reason; that 137 is wrong — it is the framework's geometric result, not disputed here, only shown insufficient at this precision; that the anomaly's disappearance is permanent, since it rests on a lattice-versus-data-driven tension still under discussion; that anything is derived here; or that the muon is or is not composite, since Section 2 shows the measurement cannot tell.
