Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) has become a worldwide epidemic, especially in Asian countries as a result of rapid socioeconomic development, overnutrition, and lack of physical activity. Among the strategies for preventing and managing T2DM, the promotion of healthy dietary habits plays an important role. Various studies which were mainly carried out in Western countries showed that higher dietary fiber (DF) intake has a significant association with a lower risk of the development of T2DM. Thus, a narrative review concentrating on the macronutrient DF was performed. PubMed and Google Scholar were used for this purpose. The goal was to examine the most recent medical research on the advantages of DF for health, with a particular emphasis on how DF consumption affects glycemic management.
