A 50-year-old Pinus sylvestris L. stand was exposed for 2 years to low concentrations of SO 2 and NO 2 in an open-air exposure experiment in northern Sweden. The mean SO 2 concentrations in the centre of the exposed plot during the 1988 exposure from 14 June to 25 September, and during the 1989 exposure from 6 June to 30 September were 15 nl l -1 and 12 nl l -1 , respectively. The corresponding values for NO 2 were 15 nl l -1 and 10 nl l -1 , respectively
