A15 Intermetallic superconductors do not receive as much media hype as the high‐ T c ceramic variety but they are big business, especially in the superconducting magnets area. This rapidly growing research field which includes melt‐spinning and rapid solidification technology is surveyed, and a report of the synthesis of Nb 3 Ge with critical currents of 5 × 10 10 and 8 × 10 10 A/M 2 at fields of 0 and 15 T respectively is reviewed.
