New information concerning the teleostean fishfauna from the Rupelian of the Frauenweiler clay pit is presented, which also includes short characterisations of recently recorded taxa. There are new genera and species within the Aulostomidae, Centriscidae, Scorpaeniformes and Echeneidae. There is a considerable diversity amongst the “Lower Percoids”;, where new taxa, in particular, were detected among the small‐sized specimens and within the materials formerly grouped under the species designation Ser‐ranus budensis. Within the Trichiuridae, there is a new species of Lepidopus. For the Scombridae, different morphotypes are defined amongst the fragmentary finds of disarticulate skulls, jaw elements and caudal fin supports. These probably represent different taxa. Additionally, the first record of a species of Sphyraenodus is noted and there are certain problematic fossil fragments that may belong to further scombroid or perciform families. The new records corroborate earlier reconstructions of the palaeoenvironment and indicate the outstanding potential of the Frauenweiler material for extending our knowledge concerning the diversification and morphology of Cenozoic teleosts.
